The Scarlet Pimpernel – The Most daring adventurer of them all !

“They seek him here, they seek him there, those Frenchies seek him everywhere.
Is he in heaven? Or is he in hell? That damned elusive Pimpernel”

Rain or Shine Theatre Company returns to the great outdoors with a riotously comic twist on Baroness Orczy’s swashbuckling classic, The Scarlet Pimpernel.
(Performed at breakneck speed by five excellent actors who multi-role with reckless abandon)

Revolutionary France is in full chaotic swing. Heads are rolling, accents are sliding, and the only thing more dangerous than the guillotine is an actor mid-costume-change.

Sir Percy Blakeney—England’s most flamboyant fop and secret master of disguise—dashes about rescuing doomed French aristocrats while Marguerite, Percy’s sharp-witted and increasingly suspicious wife, races to uncover the identity of the mysterious Scarlet Pimpernel even as the man himself is busy being everywhere at once.  Love, loyalty, mistaken identities and a great deal of silliness hurtle toward a climactic rescue that involves more cape-swirling, accent-switching and multi-role pile-ups than any respectable classical book should allow.

Fast, furious, and gloriously silly—this is The Scarlet Pimpernel as you’ve never seen it: lean, loud, and performed by five actors leaping from role to role faster than you can say “Pimpernel!”

Some of last year's Audience Comments

“Rain or Shine Theatre Company is an outstanding example of the strolling players tradition, and its current presentation of The Pickwick Papers, an open-air romp adapted from is typical of its theatrical bravura: al fresco rapport with the audience; resourcefulness; narrative pace and vigour!”

“A fabulous evening! Five brilliant actors delivering so many roles -thank you!”
